The Joy that is The Viceroy

No you haven’t just stumbled upon the Caribbean version of ‘Cribs’. This is the Viceroy Resort in the stunning Caribbean island of Anguilla. To say I have never set foot in a more unbelievable establishment would not be an exaggeration and I’m not even apologetic for how spoilt I sound.
Costing around $550 million to create, you may not be surprised to discover that the owner of the hotel and resort filed for bankruptcy in March of this year. Despite this fact, the hotel is running usual operations and the owner is claiming that customers and residents will not be affected by the recent bankrupt status.
Starwood Capital Group have bought out the Viceroy Anguilla and are said to be putting in an additional $20 million towards the construction and business operations of the company to further enhance the guest experience. I don’t see how they could possibly improve it to be honest. If anyone from the Starwood Capital Group happens to read this, feel free to send me a plane ticket for when it’s done so I can be proved wrong and blog about you again.
There are 5 restaurants and 3 pools, not including the infinity pool on the balcony of the Spa. Having a hot stone massage looking out on to the view of the ocean and surrounding villas was possibly the most serene I’ve ever felt in the most tranquil environment imaginable.
The resort has 166 exquisite residences including (not so) standard suites, penthouses and villas. If you’re lucky (like I was) and they confuse your booking, you’ll be pleased to know that the customer service was more than top notch. In amends for giving my brother and I a double bed instead of two singles, we were immediately upgraded to a penthouse suite from a standard 2 bedroom suite. You can view my virtual video tour of the penthouse on the video below accompanied by an obnoxious backing track.
In conclusion, I could not recommend a holiday destination with more enthusiasm than I do today. To be surrounded by flawless sandy beaches and a perfectly turquoise ocean is nothing compared to the breathtaking aesthetics of the hotel’s architecture and construction itself. A truly surreal experience.
